Why Are Wind Turbines White?

Why are wind turbines white? Have you never wondered why you never see red, blue, orange or green colored wind turbines? There is actually a reason for this. They are purposefully painted white because it is considered neutral and non intrusive. If you were to look at the turbine from below it would blend in well with a cloudy sky.

From above, International Aviation Laws have been gazetted to make sure that all large objects are painted white. This makes them easier for airplane aircraft to spot. In addition, the wind turbines should also have obstacle lighting installed for maximum effect. The paint also provides protection for the turbine from harsh weather conditions and reflects the sun which may heat up the structure.

For instance, if they painted them a dark color like black. Thermal energy would easily be absorbed by the structure, heating it up and ultimately deforming. Exceptions include the boat landing of offshore wind turbines, which is painted yellow and some onshore turbines have green stripes painted around the base to match their green surroundings.
