The wind energy company ACCIONA, has pioneered the first hybrid plant whose sole purpose is storing generated electricity in batteries, instead of feeding the energy directly into the grid. The storage batteries are located at their wind farm in Spain, and they feed the energy into the grid as required.
They are the same company that has also developed software for the same plant that is used for simulation. They were awarded the ‘Eolo Innovation’ prize for by the Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE) for developing this specialized. When combined their both these projects make them a pioneer in this kind of wind power solutions. Other wind farms will now also be able to integrate the variable-generation of renewable energy into the grid and also optimize the management of the wind power produced by the farms.
